Philosophy of Children's Ministry

Kidz Steps Children's Ministry
Our hope and prayer at KIDZ STEPS is that families sense a warm welcome as they jump in together into God’s Word and a relationship with Him. Below is a quick summary of some of the ministry opportunities available to your family. Please know that if you ever have any questions or concerns, my door is open to you.
One of His Kids, Too,
Children’s Worship
Children’s Worship is for 1st-4th graders on Sunday mornings during the 9am and 11am services. 5th and 6th graders are welcome to go to the service in the Sanctuary or join us in the Central Complex. Often there are opportunities for our 5th and 6th graders to engage as leaders within Children’s Worship. We strive to worship God with all of our hearts as we sing, learn, and jump into God’s Word together.
Leaps and Bounds
Leaps and Bounds is for our 3-Kindergarten age students on Sunday mornings during the 9am and 11am services. Our kid’s divide into age groups and have a shepherd who guides them through a rotation of fun, hands-on learning. Children experience music, Bible stories, crafts and games.
Nursery and Wee Walkers
The nursery is for newborns-18months and the wee walker room is for 18 months-3 years old. We provide a loving and safe environment. In the wee walker room, children experience songs, Bible stories and crafts as they play together and with their teachers. These areas are open for Sunday services and on Wednesday evenings.
Christian Education Classes on Wednesday Nights, 6:45-8pm
Nursery – 6th grade meet for “CE” classes on Wednesday nights during the school year. Children kindergarten and below meet in designated rooms from 6:45-8pm. Our 1st-6th grade students meet in the Central Complex from 6:45-7pm for games and prayer before being dismissed to their age group classes.
Elementary and Preteen Ministries do two musicals a year…one at Christmas and one in the spring. We do most of our practices during a portion of Children’s Worship so it is easier on families. Our goal is not a “production”, but one of ministry and worship. We strive to teach our kids that God can work through them to share His story of grace and love.
During the school year, our quizzers meet in the Family Life Center during the 9am service to do an in-depth study on a book of the Bible. This year, it is the book of Matthew. Those involved can engage in quizzes with other churches 4 or 5 times during the season. This is an incredible way for students to really focus in and learn God’s Word.
“Let’s Be Real!”
LBR is something special we do with our preteens… During the school year, we meet one Sunday a month for lunch, Bible study at Pastor Julie’s home and a fun activity. We usually begin after 2nd service and end at 6pm. This is an amazing time specifically designed to help our preteens connect to God and each other. It is the beginning of our whole “preteen process” (Let’s Be Real during the school year, Preteen Mission Trip during the summer and 6th Grade Retreat designed to help them make a healthy transition to youth group)
Preteen Small Group
We have a preteen small group Bible study that meets on Sunday evenings during the school year on Sundays when we do not have Let’s Be Real. The group meets from 6-7:30pm.
Summers with Kidz Steps!!
Summers are a blast!! We always have info and applications at our Children’s Welcome Center early in the spring… Get ready for our Preschool Praise Party, Summer Wednesdays, Preteen Mission Trip, District Camps, 6th Grade Retreat and LOTS and LOTS of fun, hands-on learning!
