| Frequently Asked Questions
CAN I STILL SIGN-UP?
We have very few spaces left in the leagues, so get your application in very soon! Registration forms are available in the church office, or you may download here.
WHEN DOES THE LEAGUE START AND HOW LONG DOES IT RUN? The league begins January 10, 2009, and runs through March. Some of the older students (4th grade up) start in December, and will have tournaments that will run a few weeks later.
WILL I RECEIVE CONFIRMATION OF ENROLLMENT?
No. You will receive a call from your coach before January 7 that will inform you of your first game time, location, and last-minute instructions. You will receive your uniform prior to your first game.
WHAT IS THE COST TO PLAY?
The first child in your family costs $75.00, second child is $65.00, third child is $55.00, and the fourth or more is free. Price includes full season, uniform (shirt and shorts), and awards.
WHERE ARE THE GAMES PLAYED? All games will be played at Shepherd Church of the Nazarene. We have used Gahanna Schools in the past, if enrollment dictates.
WHAT SIZE WILL MY CHILD WEAR?
Uniform shirts and shorts are available in Youth and Adult sizes. All shorts are draw-string, so the waistband can be adjusted to fit your child.
MAY I REQUEST THAT MY CHILD PLAY WITH A FRIEND?
There is a space on the Registration Form where you can request for your child to play with ONE other child.
DO YOU EVER NEED COACHES?
We can always use coaches. The number of coaches we need varies from league to league. If you're interested, there is a space on the Registration Form for your name. If you do coach, you will coach your child's team.
WHAT DAY & TIME WILL MY CHILD PLAY OR PRACTICE? While schedules may change depending on numbers and coaches, last year's game schedule looked like this:
Kindergarten... Saturdays between 8:30-1:30
1st & 2nd Boys... Saturdays between 8:00-1:00
1st & 2nd Girls... Saturdays between 8:30-1:30
3rd Grade Boys... Saturdays between 1:00-3:00 p.m.
3rd & 4th Girls... Saturdays between 1:30-4:30 p.m.
These teams will practice a specific drill or two the first 15 minutes and then use those skills in a game-like situation against another team. Your coach will stay on the floor at all times (no referees are used in these leagues) and it remains instructional throughout the "game". No scores are kept and each coach takes care of their own team as far as expectations and "fouls".
4th Grade Boys... Saturdays between 4:00-7:00 p.m.
5th & 6th Boys... Saturdays OR Friday between 6:00-9:00 p.m.
5th & 6th Girls... Thursdays between 6:00-9:00 p.m.
7th & 8th Coed... Tuesdays between 6:00-9:00 p.m.
All of these teams will practice once a week and have one game a week. All practices are either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday with a start time of either 6pm, 7pm or 8pm and will be held at any of the Gahanna elementary schools.
WHY DO THE YOUNGER LEAGUES ONLY MEET ONCE A WEEK?
We have found over the 18 years that this league has been operating that most parents and coaches appreciate the single hour comittment for 8 Saturdays in a row. Everyone seems so busy these days that this seems to work best for younger kids and allows them to play other sports or participate in other activities at the same time.
WHY DON'T THE OLDER LEAGUES HAVE MORE PRACTICES?
We are only able to schedule one practice per week becaues of limited gym space. We make sure all teams receive equal number of practices that are scheduled through the league. Coaches are welcome to additional practices, but they must be scheduled by the coach and space provided by the coach.
